Chestnuts are a unique, nutrient-dense, and
heart-healthy food that provides sustained energy.

Roasted

SCORE: Cut a deep 'X' through the shell on the flat side.
ROAST: Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20-30 min, until shells peel back.
STEAM & PEEL: Immediately wrap hot chestnuts in a towel for 5-10 min. Peel while warm!

 

Boiled

SCORE: Cut a deep 'X' through the shell on the flat side.
BOIL: Place in a pot of water, cover, and boil for 20-30 minutes until the shells open.
PEEL WARM: Remove from water and let cool slightly. Peel while still warm.

Sautéed

PEEL: Use chestnuts that have already been boiled or roasted and peeled.
SAUTÉ: Heat 1 Tbsp of butter or oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the peeled chestnuts.
SEASON: Cook for 3-5 minutes, tossing gently. Season with salt, pepper, and herbs (like sage or rosemary) until heated through and lightly browned.

Savory Dishes (Winter Comfort Food)

Stuffing: Chopped chestnuts are a beloved addition to holiday stuffing for poultry, adding a rich, earthy sweetness.
Soups and Stews: They add body and a unique flavor to rich winter dishes. They can be pureed into a creamy chestnut soup or added whole/chopped to beef or vegetable stews.
