Classic Meat Lasagna
Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground meat (beef or veal)
- 1 lb. Caraluzzi Sweet Italian Sausage (loose meat)
- 48 oz. (2 jars) Caraluzzi's San Marzano Marinara Sauce
- 1 Pkg. Caraluzzi’s Fresh Lasagna Sheets
- 2 large eggs beaten
- 16 oz. Fresh Whole Milk Ricotta cheese
- 16 oz. (4 cups) Shredded Whole Milk Mozzarella Cheese
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan and Romano cheese mixed or just Romano
- 1 Tbsp dried parsley flakes
- ½ tsp salt (Try Caraluzzi's Sea Salt)
- ¼ tsp ground pepper (Try Caraluzzi's Gourmet Pepper Blend)
Instructions
- Cook both meats in hot skillet. Be sure to break the meat up into small pieces to a crumbled consistency so it can be sprinkled on the lasagna later. When done take off heat, drain excess grease and cool down so does not continue to cook.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a separate medium-sized bowl mix egg, ricotta cheese, grated cheese, parsley flakes, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix well.
- Grease 9 x 13 glass baking dish (3qt size). Then pour a ¼” layer of sauce on bottom.
- Repeat these next steps 3 times:
- Place Lasagna sheet down, then ladle of sauce, and then evenly distribute meat, shredded cheese and ricotta cheese mixture.
- Use up the ricotta cheese mixture evenly inside the 3 layers.
- The fourth and final layer do a sauce, meat & shredded cheese (no ricotta mix on top). You may have a little extra sauce left over which is fine. Then you can add a little extra shredded Parmesan or Romano on top if you prefer.
- Grease sheet a sheet of aluminum foil and loosely cover lasagna.
- Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes then remove foil, bake another 10 mins uncovered until brown. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Can cut 1 Jar of Caraluzzi’s Pasta Sauce and use a can of Caraluzzi’s Diced Tomatoes in its place if like a chunkier consistency. Can add a cup of diced onion to cook with meat if prefer. Can also add thin slices of fresh mozzarella on the top layer instead of the shredded. Serve with warm loaf of Italian Bread. In our family we serve in addition to the holiday turkey or roast as part of the overall meal. Buon appetito!
