Caraluzzi's Donates $100,000 to Anthony and Julia Caraluzzi Family Scholarship
Founded by Anthony and Roberta Caraluzzi in 1999, The Anthony and Julia Caraluzzi Family Scholarship has assisted over 185 Western Connecticut State University undergraduates in meeting their educational costs since its creation and today has an endowment of over $700,000. Awarded to select students enrolled in Western’s Ancell School of Business, the scholarship is named after the founders of Caraluzzi’s Markets, a local business that has remained a community supporter for over 7 decades and three generations. Anthony Jr. and Roberta created the scholarship to help encourage future business leaders in Fairfield County, just as Anthony Sr. and Julia encouraged their children and grandchildren to pursue excellence in business.
In celebration of the 75th anniversary, the family is donating another $100,000 and revamping the criteria of the scholarship to reflect business changes and expansion. The original scholarship was limited to Bethel and Immaculate High Schools. Now with the addition of multiple locations serving a much greater area, the scholarship will be expanded to cover more students from the larger area Caraluzzi’s Markets serve. Additionally, the scholarship will expand from a one-time event to one which will continue all four years (or eight semesters). “Over the years we’ve had hundreds of students from Western Connecticut State University working for us in many capacities, including several alumni currently working in management positions. The relationship with the university is a great fit for both of us and represents the embodiment of supporting the local community. By developing local talent and providing opportunity for career growth, all within the greater Danbury area, speaks to the success of the scholarship’s mission,” said Mark Caraluzzi, President and CEO, Caraluzzi’s Markets.
Caraluzzi’s will also look to develop internship opportunities for business students and further strengthen the relationship with the university. Additionally, “In recognition of the 25th anniversary of the scholarship, Caraluzzi’s will be hosting a wine tasting fundraiser with Western Connecticut State University in early 2025 to help continue to support the cause,” said Jennifer Caraluzzi Dimyan, Executive, Caraluzzi’s.
