Caraluzzi's Sunsational Summer Ale
Caraluzzi's Sunsational Summer Ale is a crisp wheat beer that is delicately infused with oranges to bring a pleasant citrus flavor to a slightly sweet malt body with just a hint of hop bitterness for balance. This local craft beer is perfect for summertime excursions and pairs fabulously with backyard barbecues.
Brewing & Canning
Gather and inspect the grains before they are ground in the grain mill. Aside from providing flavor, color, and aroma to the beer, grains are essential for alcohol production.
Pour the grains into the grain mill. The most common brewing grain is barley, but other grains can also be used to make beer, including wheat, rye, oats and rice.
Add Rice Hulls
Rice Hulls are added to give the beer body and mouthfeel. Rice hulls offer a natural, easy way to help prevent a stuck mash. Rice Hulls are used to aid in filterability.
Wort is being transferred from the mash tun to the kettle for boiling. Wort is the sweet infusion of ground malt or other grain before fermentation.
Specific Gravity, sometimes called present gravity, is the density of beer or wort at standard temperature and pressure measured by a refractometer as seen.
Grain Out is the process of removing spent grain from the mash tun or lauter tun. The spent grain is removed and recycled. This spent grain is on it's way to a local farm.
Flavoring hops are generally added near the end of the boil, very little of the bitterness will be extracted from the hops, but that crisp hoppy flavor will be imparted.
Once the wort has been topped off and aerated, it is time to pitch the yeast to start fermentation. Pitching is the term brewers use for adding yeast to wort.
After 3 weeks of brewing, Caraluzzi's Sunsational Summer Ale is ready to be canned, labeled, and placed into 4 packs for distribution.
